On June 8, 2007, after months of diligent planning, fundraising, and preparation, a host of volunteers pitched in and built Phase One of a new playground for WCMS and AIMS. Minnesota Vikings players worked side by side with WCMS and AIMS families, staff members, and volunteers from Toro to construct this great playground. As you can see from the photo galleries below, a plain parcel of the schoolground was transformed into a vibrant activity area for both the students and the neighboring community. So many people and organizations contributed to this part of the project:
- Nate Rosenthal and KaBoom, a nonprofit organization that promotes the building of playgrounds across America, for organization and management
- Judson Tharin and Stacy Bogart from Toro who brought equipment and an army of friendly volunteers
- Home Depot for supplies and equipment
- Brad Madson & Lester Bagley of the Minnesota Vikings who brought a team of volunteers (literally) plus support and promotion
- Bailey's Nurseries for donating twelve trees
- Jackie Kearns and St. Paul Public School's Grounds Maintenance Division for support and security
- family and staff volunteers from AIMS and WCMS for their work, time, and more work
- Special Events Coordinator Kris Emerson for publicity
- and Assistant Principal Elaine Raspel-Borth for coordinating this grand project
