Students using the computer for research
In the past few years, World Cultures Magnet School has seen tremendous changes and growth in the area of technology. The goal of our program is to integrate the use of computers and digital media into our curriculum so that technology becomes a tool to enhance academic achievement. To that end, we have a Technology Coordinator, Mr. Michael Ching, who works with students and teachers to develop projects which are integrated into the curriculum. These projects include
  • the use of spreadsheets and graphs to compile and display data about weather around the world
  • the creation of
    kindy computers
Kindergarten class working in the computer lab.
presentation slide shows to better understand math concepts such as types of angles or area-perimeter
  • the writing process from concept maps through drafts and to a final product
In the computer lab, students work on developing skills through the use of software programs such as Jumpstart Kindergarten, Type to Learn, and Everyday Math games. Productivity tools include Appleworks, KidPix 3X, and Kidspiration. This year, the 5th and 6th grade students are creating brief animations using Kid Pix 3X, then using iMovie to combine them with their own Garage Band musical compositions.
